Isla de Lobos in brief

Isla de Lobos is a small islet off the north-east tip of Fuerteventura. It is a protected area, which is why visits need a permit. Boats leave from the harbour of Corralejo and take around 20 minutes. On the island you find a lighthouse, a circular walking trail, salt flats and a small sandy bay.

Three things are easy to mix up: the permit, the ferry fare and a possible future island fee. This page keeps them apart. It is an independent guide, not run by the island council or by any ferry company. Prices are as published in 2026 and can change.

The permit for Isla de Lobos

You apply before you travel. A ferry ticket alone is not enough.

Where to apply

The island council's visitor page links the authorisation for the islet to the LobosPass portal. Apply there before your trip. Some ferry operators offer to handle the permit for you, which is a separate service.

Quotas

When the online permit began in 2019, the council announced a limit of 200 visitors on the island at the same time. It named two windows, 10:00 to 14:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, with 200 visitors each, and allowed applications from 3 days before and for up to 3 people per application. Those figures date from 2019. Check the current quotas, time slots and lead time when you apply, especially in the busy months.

What it costs

One ferry operator says that applying yourself through the official portal is free, and it offers an optional processing service for €2. The ferry ticket is a separate cost.

A possible future fee

On 15 July 2026 the island council opened a public consultation on a future price regulation for access and visitor services at the islet. The comment period was 20 working days. The document describes a rule still to be created and sets no final price. So no island fee is confirmed, and this is not a Canary Islands tourist tax. Check the council's notices before you go.

Departures from Corralejo at 10:00, 11:15, 13:00 and 15:30. Extra departures run only from July to September. Boarding ends 10 minutes before departure. The operator reserves changes for weather, so a crossing can change.

Timetable of another operator

Its winter timetable, listed from 11 September to 13 June, shows departures from Corralejo at 09:45, 11:00, 12:30 and 13:30, and return trips at 14:00, 16:15 and 17:15. Check which year and season it covers. Do not combine it with the first operator's times.

The trail, the lighthouse and the beach

A day on the island is mostly walking and swimming.

The circular trail

The route runs from the pier to the Faro de Martiño lighthouse and returns via El Puertito. The route data gives 7.4 km, and the text rounds it to 7 km. It passes the salt flats of Salinas del Marrajo and the Saladar. Plan several hours, add time for a swim, and check the trail conditions on the day.

La Concha

A small sandy bay at the foot of La Caldera. Do not confuse it with La Concha near El Cotillo, which is on Fuerteventura itself.

What to bring

There is little shade and no shops. Bring food, water, sun protection and sturdy shoes, and stay on the marked paths.

Access needs

The ferry operator carries only folding wheelchairs, and passengers must manage a few steps when boarding and leaving. A fully step-free trip to the island is not promised.
