Four bases, four different trips
Fuerteventura has no single centre. The capital is where the institutions, the port and the airport connections are. Corralejo is where the ferries to Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote leave. Caleta de Fuste combines a sheltered beach with a short ride to the airport. El Cotillo is a fishing village with lagoons and water-sports spots on the north-west coast. The examples below show location and what each hotel publishes, not a quality ranking, and none of this tells you which place is cheapest, quietest or safest.
Hotel prices depend on the dates and the conditions of the stay, and one hotel group says so explicitly on its page. This guide therefore gives no nightly prices. Check live rates for your own dates.

The four areas compared
Example hotels and facts as published by the operators.
| Area | Example hotel | Location facts | Fits if you want |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puerto del Rosario | El Mirador de Fuerteventura, Carretera Playa Blanca 45 | Airport 5 km from the town (Aena) | Town sights, the port and short airport hops |
| Corralejo | H10 Ocean Dunas, adults only, from age 18 | In the centre, 50 m from the beach, 1.5 km to the port, 40 km to the airport | Ferries to Lobos and Lanzarote, the dunes |
| Caleta de Fuste | Barceló Fuerteventura Mar | In front of Playa del Castillo, 7 km to the airport | A sheltered beach and quick airport access |
| El Cotillo | Coral Cotillo Beach, 4 stars, Avenida los Lagos | La Concha 1.5 km, Los Lagos about 5 minutes on foot | Lagoons, surf schools and a fishing village |
The El Mirador address is on the road to Playa Blanca. Do not assume that it stands next to the pedestrian centre of town, and look at the map before you book. H10 Ocean Dunas is marketed as adults only, so it does not suit a family trip.

How to choose
An editorial reading of the location facts.
The capital
Choose it for the documented town offer: the sculpture walk, the Unamuno house on weekdays, three Blue Flag beaches and the port. It also suits a very early or late flight. It is not a resort, and the classic beach areas are elsewhere.
Things to do in town →Corralejo
Choose it for the documented ferry departures to Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote and for the dune park. The airport is far: the hotel example gives 40 km. A bus from the capital on line 6 costs a published €3.40 per direction.
Corralejo →Caleta de Fuste
Choose it for a sheltered bay and the short distance to the airport. Line 3 runs from Puerto del Rosario through Caleta de Fuste to Las Salinas, and the published fare from the capital to Caleta is €1.45 per direction. The salt museum is nearby.
Caleta de Fuste →El Cotillo
Choose it for water sports and lagoons rather than for easy transport. Bus lines 7 and 8 have their own pages with variants, so do not count on one direct connection at every time of day.
El Cotillo →Getting around from your base
Buses, rental cars and the airport.
Bus
Aena lists line 3 (Puerto del Rosario, Caleta de Fuste, Las Salinas), line 10 (to Morro Jable) and line 16 (to Gran Tarajal) with airport connections. The line 3 timetable valid from 8 June 2026 shows last departures with airport access at 23:00 from Puerto del Rosario on Monday to Saturday, with different times on Sundays and holidays. Pay the driver in cash, keep the receipt, and expect a limit of 5 times the fare per note and no notes above €50.
Airport and buses →Rental car
One rental company's terms give a minimum age of 21, a licence held for at least 2 years, a printed contract in the car, unlimited kilometres and insurance without excess for the Canary Islands. That is one company, not a rule for all. Taking a rental car on a ferry to another island needs the rental company's agreement, even when the ferry carries vehicles.
Ferry to Lanzarote →Holiday rentals and the debate over tourism
What is documented, without exaggeration.
The Canary Islands passed Law 6/2025 on 10 December 2025, which regulates the tourist use of homes. It was published in the national gazette on 23 December 2025. It exists, but it does not mean a general ban on holiday rentals, so check the rules for the exact property you plan to book.
On 18 May 2025 there were protests across the Canary Islands against the tourism model, including on Fuerteventura. For Fuerteventura, estimates of attendance ranged from about 500 according to the authorities to 1,500 according to the organisers. Visitors should be considerate: keep to marked paths, take your rubbish with you and follow local rules.

Where to stay on Fuerteventura: frequently asked questions
Is Puerto del Rosario a good base?
For town sights, the port and airport connections, yes. For beach holidays, most visitors stay in a resort area instead. See things to do in Puerto del Rosario for what the town offers.
Where should I stay for the ferry to Isla de Lobos?
Corralejo, where the ferries depart. One hotel in the centre lists 1.5 km to the port. See the Isla de Lobos guide.
Which area is closest to the airport?
The capital is about 5 km away according to Aena. A hotel in Caleta de Fuste gives 7 km, and one in Corralejo gives 40 km. These are examples, not exact distances for every hotel in the area.
Are hotels in Fuerteventura suitable for children?
That depends on the hotel. H10 Ocean Dunas in Corralejo is adults only, with a recommendation for guests over 18. Check the age policy of any hotel before you book.
What are check-in and check-out times?
One example: Barceló Fuerteventura Mar in Caleta de Fuste lists check-in from 15:00 and check-out at 12:00, with free guest parking according to its FAQ. Times differ by hotel.
How much does a hotel cost?
That depends on the dates and the conditions, so no single nightly price applies. Compare live rates for your dates. See the weather page if you are choosing a season.
